Recovery Compare

Rollers, massage balls, guns and supports compared by what they're for — target area, type and firmness — so you can tell a deep-tissue roller from a travel one, and a massage gun from a spiky ball, before you buy.

Good to know

Roller, ball or massage gun?

Rollers cover big muscle groups (quads, back, calves); balls target specific knots and hard-to-reach spots (glutes, feet); massage guns deliver fast percussion anywhere with the least effort. Many people own one of each — the tool sorts them by type and target area so you can see the overlap.

How firm should my foam roller be?

Firmer rollers work deeper but can be too much when you're new or very sore — start with a smooth or standard-density roller and progress to noduled/EVA deep-tissue models as you adapt. The comparison flags firmness where the maker states it.

Do these compare fairly against each other?

Recovery is a broad category, so the tool groups by target area and type and will note when you're lining up genuinely different tools (a tape against a roller, say). Compare within a job — roller vs roller, ball vs ball — for the cleanest read.
